Fae

The Fae are a mysterious and chaotic race from Faerie. Though they are varied in appearance, they all share a love for mischief. They are spirit beings, along with Angels and Demons. Like their other divine compatriots, they value mortal souls as a source of great power. Their race also benefits from belief, though not to the degree of Gods, though the most powerful Fae are lesser gods in their own rights.

The Faerie Courts

All Fae are affiliated with one of the four courts; Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Each court has a certain temperament and domains of power.

The Winter Court is affiliated with death, survival, and night. Known as the most ruthless and cruel of the courts, winter Fae frequently have a more gaunt and predatory look than other Fae.

The Spring Court is affiliated with new life, growth, and dawn. Though seen as the most friendly, with youthful appearances and cheerful dispositions, they are the most chaotic. Prone to spontaneous actions, they are just as likely to put you into a coma as to lend you a hand.

The Summer Court is affiliated with life, ???, and day. These Fae are more stable than the other courts, but also some of the most vengeful. They frequently have softer features and friendly (though often demeaning) attitudes towards others.

The Autumn Court is affiliated with the end of life, entropy, and dusk. Of all Fae, these are known for their melancholy, frequently discussing the inevitability of death. They tend towards more subdued attire and mature appearances.

Types of Fae

Fae come in a variety of distinct “races”, though they all share more in common than they don’t. All Fae are essentially immortal, immune to aging as mortals understand it. They are capable of assuming human form, and performing simple glamour to appear more attractive and charming. They also have an intuitive grasp of magic, being able to sense magical items or spells. Being spirit beings, the lack souls and ………… Unlike other spirit beings, Fae are fully capable of breeding with humans, and frequently do! The result of this pairing is a Changeling.

Gnomes

A.K.A. Svartalfs, Dwarfs

Gnomes are natural craftsman, responsible for many of the greatest creations in Faerie. Among humans, Gnomes are artisans, tinkerers, and inventors. They are fascinated by humanity’s mechanical know-how and are eager to adapt the technology for their own use.

Their natural form is a short human with large cat-like eyes, pointed ears.

Nymphs

A.K.A. Naiads, Dryads

Nymphs are the Fae that are closest to nature. Each nymph is bound to a particular object in nature, such as a tree, stream, pond, or boulder. Older, stronger nymphs are bound instead to an area of nature, such as a grove or a field making them a form of Genius Loci. They are free to leave their bound place, but must return every week or quickly wither away. If their bound place is destroyed (tree cut down) or sufficiently defiled (toxic waste dumped in the pond), their connection is broke and they wither and die shortly after.

Their natural form is a human with notable coloration and texture of their bound place. Examples are leaf-like hair, mossy skin, and a pale blue complexion with liquid-like hair.

Satyrs

A.K.A. Glaistig, Faun, Leshy

Satyrs are gregarious party animals. They are at their best in clubs, raves, or anywhere with music, intoxicants, and people. Their talent for music and socializing always makes them the life of any party.

Their natural form is the lower body of a goat, the upper body of a fit human, and small curved horns.

Sidhe

A.K.A. Elves, Fair Folk

The sidhe are the nobles of Faerie, frequently possessing great innate magical abilities. They are confident and haughty, and quite often dismissive of others.

Their natural form is a tall human with cat-like eyes, pointed ears, and an eerie supernatural grace.
